Los Angeles City Council Honors Mrs. Fisher Los Angeles City Council Honors Mrs. Fisher Show Transcript today uh in addition uh to judge Luke I'll I Rise to ask that we adjourn in honor of Mrs Sandra Kay Fischer a woman whose Faith love and purpose shaped everyone around her she was born in Indiana in the 1930s and dedicated her life to education building a remarkable career here in our great City she attended 36th Street Elementary School fosche Middle School and Manual Arts High School she earned a bachelor's degree from Central State University and HBCU in 1956 and a master's degree in education from UCLA Milestones that Mark just the beginning of her contribution to education she went on to serve diverse communities across Los Angeles from Avalon Gardens in the Ninth District to schools uh all the way west in Bellaire approaching her work with Equity excellence and deep compassion she devoted more than 4 decades to the Los Angeles Unified School District serving from 1956 to 1996 as a teacher administrator researcher and ultimately retiring as a principal after 4 Decades of service she championed Equity excellence and opportunity for all alongside her beloved husband Mr Eugen Fischer who joined us today she co-founded uh the very uh famous and groundbreaking Watts Learning Center Elementary School back in 1997 and the Watts Learning Center Middle School in 2007 to it enormous Community institution in uh South Los Angeles she served as a board member and the school's first executive director these institutions became beacons of opportunity and academic make excellence in community for families throughout South La as a co-founder of educational institutions at a mentor to many her influence continues through people and the program she helped build she uplifted the community with compassion wisdom and deep commitment and uh justice for uh greater opportunities for our cities people she loved music's Gathering Gatherings and the warmth of bringing people together her grace humor and welcoming Spirit made every single space brighter she laid down to rest for the final time on November 26th 2025 at the age of 90 she leaves behind a legacy of faith excellent family and love her impact continues to live within her family or students and the countless lives that she has touched we honor her today for caring for those values and for uh being the kind of Citizen that we all hope to be and leaving the kind of Mark that we all hope to leave on all of our communities and so with that we ask that this Council adjourn uh and that she rest in peace and Power and with that we are adjourned everybody thank you so much
